R3 strategy

Our strategy will help us to realise R3’s vision to be the thriving association at the heart of an effective, respected and world leading restructuring, turnaround and insolvency profession. Championing, supporting, developing and bringing together members at every stage of their career to raise standards, share knowledge and further expertise within the profession.

R3’s mission

  • To ensure that that the work done by members is publicly acknowledged, understood and valued. 
  • To give our members a collective voice on the issues and legislation that affects them, and the businesses and individuals with whom they work. 
  • To support the existence of a strong regulatory and legislative framework within which our members operate. 
  • To bring members together to share insights, knowledge and build strong, effective networks. 
  • To deliver expert training, by the profession for the profession, raising technical and ethical standards across the profession and promoting best practice. 
  • To encourage the exploration and adoption of new technologies to drive progress and competitiveness. 

Key R3 priorities

R3 members are central to everything that we do. We aim to have a broad, diverse and actively engaged membership which better reflects the communities we serve.

Delivering our priorities

Throughout 2026 and 2027 we will strengthen and develop opportunities for regional engagement, ensuring that a range of events take place local to you. These include forums tackling issues and challenges which are specific to your region, roundtables bringing together specialists from across the UK and dinners and social networking events enabling you to connect with your peers and strengthen networks. 

We will be launching an equality diversity and inclusion (EDI) Committee to consolidate the work being done across R3 to promote EDI and to support the development of a profession that reflects the full diversity of the businesses and individuals it supports, and where everyone has the opportunity to join and progress, regardless of their background. 

During 2026 we will be bringing together specialists to discuss current challenges faced by members including around members voluntary liquidations (MVLs), higher education issues, and restructuring plans and moratoriums. 

R3 represents the collective voice of our individual members advocating for an effective regulatory and legislative framework, educating others as to the value of the work undertaken by the profession and promoting the profession as a rewarding and challenging career choice. 

Delivering our priorities 

During 2026 and 2027 we will be representing members’ views as we respond to the many consultations expected or ongoing including reforms to the civil enforcement regime, the Insolvency Rules Review, proposals to reform the Personal Insolvency Framework, firm regulation, standard setting and much more. 

We will be launching a suite of resources aimed at those interacting with the profession such as creditors, employees, directors and individuals in financial distress. 

We will promote the value of the work delivered by the profession through our Value of the Profession Report to other sectors and to legislators. 

R3 supports the professional and personal development of all of our members through the delivery of high quality, practical training. 

Delivering our priorities 

Throughout 2026 and 2027 we will be developing a suite of training courses, adding short, practical courses aimed at professionals at whatever stage of their career, as well as delivering face to face training on a range of topics providing opportunities to engage directly with the expert speakers. 

We will expand our mentoring scheme to support those returning to work after a career break and those looking to develop their career and move into more senior roles. 

We will promote the range of entry points into the profession and develop career resources for those looking to join the profession. 

R3 encourages innovation to drive change and improvement in the way that members and our teams work. We encourage policy makers to adopt to an innovative approach to shaping the framework within which the profession operates, ensuring that legislation and regulation keeps pace with technological advancements and developments professional practice. 

Delivering our priorities 

During 2026 and 2027 we will be delivering our joint report on the adoption of AI across the profession, sharing insights and experiences with members. 

We will deliver a new website and embrace opportunities provided by changes in technology to enhance and streamline the delivery of services to members. 

We will partner with academics to deliver insightful research to support R3’s work. 

We will look to setting up an Innovation Faculty to interrogate new technologies. 

We will establish an International Faculty to share knowledge and experience of insolvency and restructuring regimes from around the world to support and influence the development of the UK regulatory and legislative framework. 

Through R3’s strong connections with key stakeholders and experienced professionals we work actively to address complex technical and regulatory issues faced by the profession. Supporting our members by providing technical updates, guides and insights into key issues, in an accessible and digestible way. 

Delivering our priorities 

Throughout 2026 and 2027 we shall be reviewing the effectiveness of restructuring plans, moratoriums and administration as a rescue tool and identifying areas for potential reform. 

We will continue to promote R3 proposals for a creditors’ voluntary liquidation (CVL) statutory fee. 

We will work with specialists across the university sector to develop effective proposals for dealing with financial distress across the higher education sector, seeking to ensure that students are protected where possible. 

What’s next?

Our strategic plan is a dynamic one. We’ve set out our vision, themes and the work we will be doing to underpin our strategy. But we’ll also be adapting our plans, objectives, and activities to match the world around us as time moves on.
